어느 설문 조사

 

 

 

최근 범세계적인 설문조사가 있었는데 질문된 단 한 가지는
"세계 다른 나라들의 식량 부족에 대한 해결책에 관해 여러분의 솔직한 의견을 부탁합니다"였다.
그러나 설문조사는 놀랄 것도 없이 완전 실패로 끝났다. 그 이유는:

아프리카에서는 "식량(food)" 이 무슨 뜻인지 몰랐기 때문이고,
동유럽 사람들은 "솔직(honest)" 이 무슨 뜻인지 몰랐기 때문이고,
서유럽 사람들은 "부족(shortage)" 이 무슨 뜻인지 몰랐기 때문이고,
중국인들은 "의견(opinion)" 이 뭔 말인지 몰랐고,
중동에선 "해결책(solution)" 이 뭔 말인지 몰랐고,
남아메리카에서는 "부탁(please)" 이란 말이 뭔지 몰랐고,
그리고, 미국인들은 "세계 다른 나라(the rest of the world)" 가 뭔지 몰랐던 것이다.

The international food shortage

Recently, a worldwide survey was conducted and the only question asked was:
"Would you please give your honest opinion about the solution
to the food shortage in the rest of the world?"
The survey was, not surprisingly, a huge failure. Because:

In Africa they didn't know what "food" meant.
In Eastern Europe they didn't know what "honest" meant.
In Western Europe they didn't know what "shortage" meant.
In China they didn't know what "opinion" meant.
In the Middle East they didn't know what "solution" meant.
In South America they didn't know what "please" meant.
And, in the USA they didn't know what "the rest of the world" meant.
