이제나저제나 고대하던 그의 새 앨범,

야후! 드디어 나온 새 곡들을 손에 쥔 우리 부부, 차에 한 시간을 꼬박 앉아
들뜬 마음으로 그 한 곡 한 곡에 푹 빠져든 게 불과 몇 주 전이었는데...

The music industry has lost a legendary Canadian singer, poet, and novelist.
Leonard Cohen died on Monday, November 7. He was 82 years old.

며칠 전 그의 날벼락 같은 부음을 알리는 휴대폰 모니터를 들여다보며
난 그저 망연자실해 했을 뿐이다.

"You Want It Darker"
앨범 타이틀도 그렇고 스산한 노랫말이며... 참 많이 dark 하네...
곡 여기저기 여지없이 담고 있는 blue.
코끝 시큰하게 했던 오래전 그의 "So Long, Marianne" 속의 그 blue와 참 많이 닮아 있었다.

Adam Cohen, Leonard Cohen's son, simple stated,
"My father passed away peacefully at his home

with the knowledge that he had completed what he felt was
one of his greatest records."

사망 원인을 말하지 않은 유족의 부음 메시지.
자신의 죽음을 준비했던 걸까, 아님 예견했던 걸까...

이 나라 저 나라, 제자리를 잘못 차지하고 앉은 어글리 지도자들로 인해
지구촌 온 동네가 혼돈 속에 있는 이 시대 이 시간,
"I am ready to die. I hope it's not too uncomfortable. That's about it for me."
언젠가 인터뷰에서 했던 그의 말처럼
다가올 마지막 시간을 그답게 차분히 준비하며
시어 하나, 선율 하나하나에 불꽃 피우고 있었을 그의 모습이 대조된다.

우리는 그를 잃었지만
그가 남겨준 아름다운 노래들로 그 슬픔을 위로해 본다.
